RCN MEDICAL MISSIONS REPORTING Monthly Free Antenatal Clinic for Pregnant Women in the IDP Mega Camp 28th August, 2025 1. Background / Team The RCN Missions’ Hospital, commissioned in 2024, is committed to delivering affordable, accessible and high-quality healthcare driven by love and guided by faith. Although located in Makurdi, Benue State, its services extend to rural and distant communities through: • AromeCare (Medical Missions/Outreaches) • DinnaCare (Women & Children Health Support Programme) • DOCcare (Community Health Interventions) 2. Free Monthly ANC Programme To meet urgent maternal health needs in the IDP Mega Camp and in alignment with SDG 3.1 and the Every Newborn Action Plan (ENAP), RCN Medical Center conducts a free monthly antenatal clinic for pregnant women residing in the IDP Mega Camp along Ortom Road, Makurdi. 3. Activities Pre-visit: Official approval was obtained from BSEMA and camp management. Visit: The first free monthly ANC clinic held on 28 August 2025. Post-visit: The following cases were identified for referral and follow-up: • 3 newly diagnosed RVD cases (sent for confirmation) • 1 suspected IUFD • 1 anembryonic gestation • 1 preterm labour 4. Beneficiaries Pregnant women residing in the IDP Mega Camp. 5. Aims / Goals To reduce maternal, fetal and neonatal mortality rates among vulnerable women through continuous, high-quality and compassionate antenatal care. 6. Impact Assessment Qualitative: The women received: • Teaching and exhortation from the Word of God • Vital signs checks • Laboratory investigations (blood and urine tests) • Medical consultations with O&G specialists • Free ultrasound scans • Free medications Quantitative: Total number of women attended to: **35** 7. Medical Missions Vital Summary Statistics • All women had their vital signs assessed. • All underwent full lab investigations (blood + urine). - Three newly diagnosed RVD cases identified for confirmation and care. • All underwent ultrasound scans. - Three notable scan findings requiring referral: • Suspected IUFD • Preterm labour • Suspected anembryonic gestation • All women consulted with O&G specialists. • All received routine medications (many lacked access prior to the clinic). A pressing need for family planning education was identified—for example: • A 32-year-old carrying her 7th pregnancy • A 30-year-old carrying her 8th pregnancy (5 deliveries, 2 miscarriages) 8. Testimonials / Case Stories Critical cases (IUFD suspicion, anembryonic gestation and preterm labour) were detected due to availability of ultrasound equipment and specialist expertise. Follow-up is ongoing for all identified cases. 9. Recommendations / Next Steps • Team should arrive earlier for subsequent clinics. • Depending on number of cases, additional personnel may be required. • Expand ANC outreach to include more IDP camps. • Strengthen referral and follow-up systems, especially for high-risk cases.
