RCN MEDICAL MISSIONS REPORTING IDP Camp, Makurdi, Benue State 14th May, 2025 Background, team The RCN Missions’ Hospital was commissioned in year 2024 with its mission of providing affordable, accessible and high-quality healthcare, driven by love and guided by faith. The institution is devoted to delivering top-tier services that prioritize the physical, emotional and spiritual well-being of patients. The hospital is physically located in Makurdi Benue State, however, her reach extends beyond Makurdi to the far ends of Nigeria even reaching to distant and rural communities of the country. This is achieved through her three core programmes which include; AromeCare (Medical Missions/Outreaches) DinnaCare (Women and Children Health Support Programme) DOCcare (Dedicated Organisation for Communities Care/Community Health Interventions) The Medical Missions Team to Benue Links Motor Park The Medical Missions team of the RCN Medical Center, under the umbrella of the Remnant Christian Network conducted a free medical outreach at IDP Camp, Ortom road, Makurdi, Benue State, Nigeria which held on the 14th of May, 2025. The team consisted of three Medical Doctors, Nurses, Medical lab Technicians, Pharmacist, and a logistic officer. Activities: Pre-visit: On the 2nd of May, 2025 a request letter was taken to SEMA (Benue State Emergency Management Agency) secretariat for the outreach. A follow up visit was done on the 8th of May, 2025 to get the approval letter which was taken to IDP camp that same day ahead of the outreach. Visit: The outreach was done on the 14th of May by the RCN Medical Missions Team Post-visit: All data collected would be entered into the google form created, RCN Medical Missions team intend to do follow up visits to the motor park Beneficiaries Residents of the Benue State IDP Camp in Makurdi, were the beneficiaries of the free medical outreach Aims / Goals Providing affordable, accessible and high-quality healthcare, driven by love and guided by faith is the core purpose of the RCN Medical Missions. The aim of the medical outreach was to provide health education, basic and essential health checks and screening, medical consultation services, basic medical interventions, counselling and medications for members of the community. Impact assessment Qualitative: During the medical crusade, the residents of the Makurdi IDP camp had their vital signs checked, had medical consultation, there was a laboratory stand with equipment to provide free tests to people as required, the tests available included; Rapid Diagnostic test (RDT) for malaria parasite, test for Hepatitis B virus (HBsAg), test for Hepatitis C virus, blood sugar level test, widal test and RDT for HIV. Finally, the pharmacy provided the people with free medications as prescribed. After the medical outreach, free sanitary towels were also distributed to women of reproductive age and the team members spared time to speak with some of the children in the camp. Quantitative: Impact in Numbers (Demography and Health Statistics) A total of 127 patients were attended to with females being 92 in number and males 35. The age of the participants ranged from 6 months to 110 years of age Accounting Amount spent on medical consumables Medications Laboratory Consumables General Consumables Amount spent on food/ items/ gifts Personnel remuneration Logistics and Transportation Preparation, Publicity and Reporting Worth of services provided: (value assessment) Cost of drugs at 15% mark-up Prevailing cost of investigation services Cost of consultations at prevailing rate Cost of feeding Cost of gifts and other items Others Funding and Sponsorship Medical Missions Vital Summary Statistics Number of clients seen: A total number of 127 individuals were attended to Bio-demographic distribution: All patients consented to receiving the free medical checks, consultation and free medication. The age of patients ranged from 6 months to 110 years. The 31-40 years age range had the highest number of patients (25.2%), followed by 0 – 10 years age range (19%), the least represented age group was 71 years and above (3.1%). Majority of the recipients of the medical outreach were females (72.4%). Vital Signs: Temperature was checked for 127 persons, majority of them (60.6%) had temperature within the range of 35.5˚C – 36.5 ˚C, many of them (37%) had temperature within the range of 36.6˚C – 37.5˚C while 2.4% had above 37.5 ˚C. Pulse was checked for 98 persons with 91.8% having pulse rate within the range of 60-100 b/m, 6.1% had pulse rate above 100 b/m and 2% had pulse rate within the range of 50-59 b/m. Blood pressure was checked for 93 persons with 59.1% having blood pressure within the range of 90/60 – 130/90mmHg, 15.1% had above 150/90mmHg, 12.9% of them had blood pressure within the range of 141/90 – 150/90mmHg, 12.9% had blood pressure within the range of 131/90 – 140/90mmHg. Lab Tests: Lab tests were done based on the consulting officer’s request. For blood sugar, 11 persons had blood sugar checks with 90.9% having blood sugar levels within the range of 4.0 – 7.8mmol/L, 9.1% had blood sugar levels above 8.5mmol/L. Seven people were tested for Hepatitis B, 100% were non-reactive, seven people were tested for Hepatitis C, both (100%) were non-reactive, four people had RVS test done 50% were non-reactive, 50% were reactive. Disease Pattern (Diagnosis): The most common diagnosis with 26% was Dyspepsia followed by diagnoses of Malaria reported in (25.2%), Hypertension was reported in (11%), Vaginal candidiasis in (10.2%), PID in (7.9%), URTI was diagnosed in 5.2%, Myalgia, Hernia and Filariasis/Helminthiasis each in 5.5%. Some other conditions diagnosed include enteric fever (4.7%), UTI (4.7%), gastroenteritis (3.1%), Low back pain (3.1%), osteoarthritis (3.1%), and others. Secondary Referrals: Out of the data collected for people attended to, 15.7% required secondary referral Medications Prescribed: The following medications were prescribed, tab paracetamol 38.6%, Antimalarial tablets (26%), tab omeprazole (21.3%), tab vitamin C (14.7%), tab albendazole (19.7%), tab ciprofloxacin (18.1%), tab fluconazole (14.2%), tab amoxicillin (13.4%), tab diclofenac (13.4%), metronidazole (11%), vitamin C (10.2%), tab gelusil (12.9%), tab amlodipine (8.7%), tab ibuprofen (7.9%), doxycycline capsules (7.9%), Hematinics (7.1%), Clotrimoxazole cream (6.3%), tab Ampiclox (4.7%), Tab Loratadine (4.7%), Suspension gascol (4.7%), Tab Azithromycin (4.7%) as well as other medications.
