RCN MEDICAL MISSIONS REPORTING School Medical Outreach at Olive Tree Redeemer’s Secondary School 2nd July, 2025 Background, team The RCN Missions’ Hospital was commissioned in year 2024 with its mission of providing affordable, accessible and high-quality healthcare, driven by love and guided by faith. The institution is devoted to delivering top-tier services that prioritize the physical, emotional and spiritual well-being of patients. The hospital is physically located in Makurdi Benue State, however, her reach extends beyond Makurdi to the far ends of Nigeria even reaching to distant and rural communities of the country. This is achieved through her three core programmes which include; AromeCare (Medical Missions/Outreaches) DinnaCare (Women and Children Health Support Programme) DOCcare (Dedicated Organisation for Communities Care/Community Health Interventions) School Medical Outreach by the Medical Missions Team The Medical Missions team of the RCN Medical Center, under the umbrella of the Remnant Christian Network conducted a school outreach at Olive Tree Redeemer’s Secondary School, Makurdi, Benue State, Nigeria on the 2nd of July, 2025. The outreach was centered around the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking which held on the 26th of June. Activities: Pre-visit: On the 23rd of June, 2025 a request letter was taken to the school which was received by the Principal of the school and approval was given. Visit: The outreach was done on the 2nd of June, 2025 by the RCN Medical Missions Team Post-visit: The team intends to further provide health education and possible counselling services for students of the school. Beneficiaries The JSS1, JSS2, SS1 and SS2 students of the Olive Tree Redeemer’s Secondary School, Makurdi were the beneficiaries of the outreach Aims / Goals Providing affordable, accessible and high-quality healthcare, driven by love and guided by faith is the core purpose of the RCN Medical Missions. The aim of the school outreach was to provide health education, counselling and care for the students. Impact assessment Qualitative: The school outreach started at about 8:10am, it held in the school hall. During the outreach, health talk on Drug Abuse including Definition, types, causes, dangers/effects and prevention was done by Mr Paulson. Another session on reasons why young people engage in drug abuse, how to be sensitive to one’s environment and how to avoid negative influence and pressure was done by Nurse Wunmi. She also spoke extensively on illicit trafficking. The students had the opportunity to ask questions, some of the questions asked include; Can Vitamin C be abused? Do women also abuse drugs? Is taking of alcohol drug abuse? Can cough syrup be abused? All questions were appropriately answered. After the health talk, spiritual ministration and prayers was done by Ibukunoluwa after which free biros were shared for all students present. The school’s Principal also had the opportunity to check her blood vital signs in her office. Quantitative: Impact in Numbers (Demography and Health Statistics) 125 students (males and females) were present at the outreach.
