FROM MAKURDI BENUE STATE NIGERIA TO NUEVA ECIJA CABANATUAN CITY PHILIPPINES: A GROWING GLOBAL PARTNERSHIP ROOTED IN FAITH, SERVICE, AND ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE

A journey that began on 8th November 2025, in the city of Detroit Michigan United States of America, now be referred to as a providential encounter occurred during the 72nd Anniversary of World Medical Relief. World Medical Relief (WMR)-a longstanding mutual partner of both Remnant Christian Network Medical Center and Wesleyan University-Philippines had played host to partners from all over the world in a Gala night to mark 72 years of their meritorious and impactful existence.

It was at this global humanitarian gathering that Dr. Chukwudi Okebaram, Medical Director of RCN Medical Center Makurdi and Director of Medical Missions, Remnant Christian Network, met with Dr. Irineo G. Alvaro Jr., President of Wesleyan University-Philippines.

What began as a brief exchange between leaders would soon develop into a progressive and development-minded inter-organisational relationship spanning three continents.

A Shared Vision Through a Mutual Partner

World Medical Relief has long served as a bridge between healthcare institutions and underserved populations worldwide. Both RCN Medical Center Makurdi and Wesleyan University-Philippines have engaged with the organisation in advancing responsible, accountable, and impact-driven utilisation of medical resources.

Thus, the meeting in Detroit was more than coincidental; it represented a convergence of aligned missions:

  • Faith-driven leadership
  • Ethical medical service
  • Academic excellence
  • Community transformation
  • Global solidarity

Within weeks, the conversation in Detroit evolved into structured collaboration.

A.    The 80th Anniversary of Wesleyan University-Philippines: A Fortnight of Impact

From 23rd January to 11th February 2026, Dr. Chukwudi Okebaram was invited as an International Guest Speaker at the 80th Anniversary of Wesleyan University-Philippines.

Founded in 1946 on the enduring ideals of John Wesley, the university has maintained a longstanding commitment to holistic education — integrating spiritual formation, social responsibility, and academic rigor.

The 80th anniversary celebration unfolded as a vibrant two-week programme that transcended ceremony. It became a platform for intellectual exchange, cultural engagement, and international collaboration.

Activities during the fortnight included:

  • Didactic lectures and interdisciplinary academic sessions
  • Strategic dialogues on internationalisation and global partnerships
  • Spiritual and ethical engagements grounded in Wesleyan heritage
  • Iconic campus and city visitations
  • A citywide motorcade and civic observances
  • Cultural immersion experiences celebrating Filipino identity
  • Radio programmes and media interactions
  • A grand gala night honouring eight decades of institutional impact
  • A declared city holiday reflecting the university’s civic relevance

Dr. Okebaram’s participation represented not merely individual presence but institutional engagement—carrying the ethos of Remnant Christian Network Medical Missions into a global academic context.

B.    Strengthening Africa–Asia–North America Collaboration

This emerging partnership symbolically connects:

  • Africa— through RCN Medical Center Makurdi, Benue State, Nigeria
  • Asia— through Wesleyan University-Philippines, Cabanatuan City
  • North America— through World Medical Relief, Detroit, Michigan

It demonstrates how institutions anchored in faith and service can collaborate across geographical and cultural boundaries to strengthen education, healthcare, and community development.

Potential areas of growing cooperation include:

  • Academic exchange and faculty collaboration
  • Medical missions training and capacity development
  • Ethical resource stewardship and accountability systems
  • Cross-cultural educational initiatives
  • International research
  • Joint public health advocacy efforts

Such collaboration reflects a model of partnership that is values-based, forward-looking, and sustainable.

C.   Faith in Action, Scholarship in Service

The ideals of John Wesley emphasised practical faith — belief expressed through disciplined, organised service to society. The evolving relationship between Wesleyan University-Philippines and Remnant Christian Network Medical Missions echoes this tradition.

Education informs service.

Service enriches education.

Partnership multiplies impact.

From Makurdi to Detroit, and from Detroit to Nueva Ecija, what began as a meeting has matured into a shared journey.

D.   Looking Ahead

The 72nd Anniversary of World Medical Relief was a moment of connection.

The 80th Anniversary of Wesleyan University-Philippines was a milestone of engagement.

What lies ahead is a structured and expanding collaboration — one grounded in faith, strengthened by scholarship, and directed toward sustainable global impact.

As both institutions continue to build on this foundation, the vision remains clear:

To serve communities with competence and compassion.

To educate with integrity and global perspective.

To partner across continents for lasting transformation.
